Rock (fiction)

Jealousy and Envy are twin demons
who ought to be chained and locked up
in the furthest corner of the room of your mind.

Set them free
and they’ll play havoc with your thoughts,
driving you to the very depths of depression
with their nagging, never-ending whines
that if listened to for too long in your head,
can have you feeling a very heavy stone
slowly coming down to rest
in the bottom of your heart.

This stone weighs a ton
and cannot be lifted by ordinary people
save some pretty muscled up, beefy men
who would have to draw in a long breath of air

and heave a heavy sigh before laying their arms on this hard, solid form
of rock.

The rock that weighs down your soul
cannot be removed in a hurry
and the demons who precipitated this stone coming into being,
rush hurriedly away into the night.

So think twice before letting these demons occupy your mind.
Don’t let rocks form in your soul, to weigh your heart down.
